Hi there!
I’m Isabel. I’m from Naperville, IL and I studied multimedia journalism at the University of Missouri - Columbia. I like trying new foods, reading about fashion trends and hanging out with my friends. Since social distancing measures started, I've watched a lot of Instagram Lives, cooked jalapeño poppers with my mom and started watching The Sopranos.
Growing up, my parents made me watch a half an hour of local news and a half-hour of national news each night. I hated the practice at the time. But now I know that helped lay a foundation for my desire to help others stay informed. Now, I get my news from podcasts, Twitter and local news apps.
I’ve learned something from every newsroom I’ve been in. At my student-run campus TV station, MUTV, I honed my video shooting and editing skills. I also learned how to cover the university's academic resources, student government and how the state legislature influences life on campus.
I learned how to edit videos on tight deadlines and I gained a wealth of knowledge on how the European Union works while interning at Reuters in Belgium.
I learned how to write SEO-enhanced headlines and strong compelling local stories at the Knoxville News Sentinel.
At KBIA, I learned how to produce clean audio and I grew in my ability to pitch original stories. At the Columbia Missourian, I strengthened my writing skills and gained a new appreciation for how state government works. I also learned how to optimize digital content for social channels.
But I’m far from being done with learning. I love journalism because it gives me opportunities to become a mini-expert on new topics and stories. I’m always looking for ways to improve personally and professionally.
