“Lot of people want to talk about how you are going to clean it up, but the answer is you probably can never clean it up. So the best method for dealing with it is make sure you're protecting the people around it.”

- David Shorr, environmental lawyer, talking about tricholoroethylene

About this story:

I worked with three other people on this story. We spent a day in Camdenton, Missouri interviewing former factory workers and their families about their experiences with a factory that made air conditioning parts.  We also interviewed an environmental lawyer, a leader of a citizen-led advisory group and a toxicology researcher. I created the interactive map and the timeline. I also helped write the script for the audio piece and helped fact-check the text piece. Finally, I helped write extended captions for a photo essay we also turned in. I am extremely proud of this project.
